Grand welcome: A dragon dance at SJK (C) Poi Lam welcoming Dr Chua to the school.
It was made possible when the school received a special Federal Government allocation of RM3mil and donations of about RM10mil from students, parents, non-governmental organisations and philanthropists.
The school’s relocation work committee chairman Tan Gim Pin said the federal government fund was approved with the help of MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The new school, sitting on a 5.2ha plot of land, would be complete with a sports complex, a canteen, a grand hall and a five-storey building to house classrooms.
The school that was set up in 1925, is currently sharing the premises with the secondary school on a 0.8ha plot of land.

Site visit: Dr Chua touring the new SJK (C) Poi Lam school building.
Dr Chua, who officiated the soft opening of the school on Sunday, said the Government had not neglected Chinese primary schools as proven in the case of SJK (C) Poi Lam.
Similarly, SJK (C) Bercham had also received an allocation of RM3mil from the Government to build a sports complex and 33 new classrooms, he said after launching the buildings.
